Recognising the patterns that hold you back.
Have you ever felt held back by something you couldn't quite name? This is somewhere to look at what's been running in the background, and, gently, to change it.

What this can look like
Before
Maybe there’s a version of yourself that functions perfectly well on the outside, while something else runs quietly underneath. A feeling that doesn’t quite have a name. A pattern that keeps showing up in different situations, different relationships, different years, recognisable, but somehow still there. Have you ever felt that?
After
What if that quiet undercurrent began to soften? Not all at once, but gradually, in the moments that matter most. A little more ease where there was tension. A little more room to breathe where things felt tight. The pattern still known, but no longer running the show.
What do we mean by patterns? Our minds are extraordinarily good at learning, so good that they automate responses before we're even aware of them. Thoughts, feelings, behaviours that once helped us navigate difficult moments become default settings, running in the background long after the original moment has passed. When those defaults no longer serve what you need and want from your life, they can quietly shape everything: how you see yourself, how you relate to others, how freely you move through the world. Hypnotherapy works directly with these learned patterns — not to erase them, but to make them visible.
And what becomes visible can change.
You're not alone in this
Somewhere to finally put it down.
Perhaps you've tried to make sense of it on your own. Or explained it to people who care about you but couldn't quite reach it. There's something quietly exhausting about carrying something that's difficult to name, something that no medical appointment can locate or label, but quietly shapes everything about how you move through your days.
This is somewhere none of that needs explaining first. You don't need the right words, the right diagnosis, or the right story. There's no performance required here. No right way to arrive.
Every session is built around you. Your goals, your pace, your way of making sense of things. Together we identify what's been running in the background and work, methodically and warmly, to change it. Not through willpower or talking in circles, but through a structured, evidence-based approach that works directly with the patterns beneath the surface. Sessions are available via Zoom worldwide and in person for UK-based clients.
Questions
Things people often wonder.
No. Hypnotherapy is not the stage hypnosis you may have seen on television. You remain aware and in control throughout. You cannot be made to do, say, or believe anything against your will. Hypnosis is simply a state of focused, relaxed attention, and you can come out of it whenever you choose.
Most people describe it as a pleasant state of deep relaxation — similar to that drifting feeling just before sleep, or the absorbed calm of being completely caught up in a film or a book. You remain aware of your surroundings and can hear everything that is said. Many people are surprised by how ordinary it feels.
This varies depending on what you're working with and how you respond. We will agree a clear plan together at the start, including a specific number of sessions and a way of tracking progress, so you always know what we're working towards. There is no open-ended commitment.
The evidence base for hypnotherapy is substantial and growing. Research published in peer-reviewed journals including the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis shows consistent, significant benefits for a range of presentations. Neuroimaging studies have demonstrated that hypnosis produces measurable changes in brain activity, it is not simply a placebo effect. I will always be honest with you about what the evidence does and does not support for your specific situation.
Yes. Research comparing in-person and online hypnotherapy delivery has found comparable outcomes. Many clients find that being in their own familiar environment actually helps them relax more easily. All that is needed is somewhere quiet and a reliable internet connection.
Scepticism is entirely reasonable, and welcome. You do not need to believe in hypnotherapy for it to work. What matters is a willingness to engage with the process. The approach used here is grounded in established psychological principles and clinical research, not in mysticism or belief. A sceptical, questioning attitude is something I actively encourage.
Yes. Everything discussed in sessions is held in strict confidence, in accordance with professional ethical guidelines. The only exceptions are the rare circumstances where there is a serious risk of harm, in which case I would always aim to discuss this with you first. I am registered with GHR, GHSC and CNHC and bound by their codes of ethics.
Hypnotherapy works differently from standard talking therapy because it works directly with the patterns and responses that operate below conscious awareness. These are the automatic, habitual reactions that talking about a problem does not always reach. It is not a replacement for other approaches, and I will always be honest if I think a different kind of support would serve you better.
How it works
What working together looks like.
A free conversation
A warm, unhurried conversation, a chance for us to talk about what’s going on and get a genuine sense of whether working together feels right. There’s nothing to prepare, nothing to have figured out beforehand. Most people find it easier than they expected.
A personalised plan
Together we build something that actually fits, a way of working shaped around where you are right now. Clear, collaborative, and yours.
Sessions over Zoom or in person
Sessions take place via Zoom, from wherever you are in the world or in person for UK-based clients. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person work, and many clients find the familiarity of their own space actually helps.
Measurable progress
You’ll always know what we’re working towards, and you’ll feel it, not just report it. Progress shows up in the moments between sessions: a situation that once felt heavy, feeling a little lighter. A response that once felt automatic, becoming a choice. Small at first, then less small.
The approach
Grounded in evidence, not guesswork.
Think of a pattern as a well-worn groove in the road, one your mind returns to automatically, without thinking. These grooves form through experience and repetition. And just as they formed, they can be reshaped.
Hypnotherapy works by creating a state of focused, relaxed attention, not sleep, not unconsciousness, but a particular kind of mental openness in which the mind becomes more receptive to change. In this state, it becomes possible to rehearse new ways of thinking and responding, vividly, as if they were already real. Research in neuroscience and clinical hypnotherapy shows that the brain responds to these imagined rehearsals in ways that are remarkably similar to actual experience, gradually building new, healthier pathways that begin to feel natural.
The approach used here, Rational Emotive Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (RECBH), combines this with a structured, compassionate method for identifying the beliefs and patterns that maintain distress, and replacing them with something more workable. It's collaborative, clear, and grounded in decades of psychological research.
This isn't about vague relaxation or stage-hypnosis cliché. It's structured, collaborative work, and I'll always be honest with you about what the evidence does and doesn't support.
About
Someone who has walked this road.

I'm Erdjan, and I came to this work through my own experience of crippling anxiety and depression, and finding my way through them . Which is part of why I don't believe in carrying things alone, and why I built this practice around the idea that you shouldn't have to either.
Alongside my clinical training, I bring 25 years of embodied practice through aikido, a discipline that works with the body's relationship to tension, balance, and calm response under pressure. My personal practice also includes breathwork and meditation, disciplines that have deepened my understanding of the relationship between body, breath, and psychological state. That understanding of how the body holds and releases experience quietly shapes the way I work with people.
I've also spent years travelling extensively across the world, and what struck me most wasn't only how differently people carry stress, anxiety, and sorrow, but how differently they face it. The rituals, the relationships, the forms of meaning people reach for when things get hard. That breadth of human experience informs how I listen and how I work.
Before training as a hypnotherapist, I spent years practising as an architect, holding a BA and MA in Architecture. That background shapes how I work: methodically, with attention to structure, and with a deep respect for the relationship between form and function. It also means I am comfortable sitting with complexity without needing to simplify it prematurely.
This practice is built on the belief that patterns can change. Not through willpower or positive thinking, but through understanding exactly what's maintaining them and working, methodically and warmly, to shift them.

Erdjan has an incredibly sharp and curious mind, and his methodical background brings a wonderful ability to see the bigger picture while understanding how all the pieces fit together. Behind that analytical mind is someone who genuinely cares about people. Thoughtful, deeply committed, and bringing real depth to his work, and I have no hesitation in recommending him.

I recently had a Patternist Hypnotherapy session, and I was genuinely impressed by the experience. He was extremely professional, warm and welcoming, and made me feel completely at ease from the very beginning. His approach is intuitive, personalised and very effective. As an osteopath, I can see how this type of work could be a valuable addition to supporting a person's overall wellbeing. I would definitely recommend to my patients and to anyone interested in exploring hypnotherapy. Thank you for such a positive experience.
